TETHER STUDIO is professional tethered capture software for macOS. It supports 2,900+ cameras via our custom capture engine, and includes Smart Cull AI image analysis, Art Director Mode with markup tools, Client View, compare views, shot lists, IPTC metadata, dual backup, and focus stacking. It costs $99 one-time with no subscription.

How much does TETHER STUDIO cost?

$99. One-time. That's it. No subscription, no tiers, no upsells, no annual renewal, no per-seat pricing. You pay once and own it forever. All features included.

Is TETHER STUDIO a good Capture One alternative?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO offers professional tethering features comparable to Capture One but costs $99 once instead of $216/year. It includes, built in: Smart Cull AI (blur, face focus, exposure and duplicate grouping, auto-labelled Keep, Review or Reject), Art Director markup with numbered revision pins, a no-install phone and iPad approval gallery, and a built-in RAW editor. No subscription required.

Is TETHER STUDIO a good Lightroom alternative for tethering?

Yes. Lightroom's tethering is limited and requires a Creative Cloud subscription. TETHER STUDIO is purpose-built for tethered capture with dedicated features like Smart Cull, Art Director Mode, Client View, and shot lists. $99 one-time, no Adobe subscription needed.

What cameras does TETHER STUDIO support?

Over 2,900 cameras via our custom capture engine. Sony A7/A9/A1/FX/ZV series, Canon EOS R5/R6/R3/5D/1DX, Nikon Z8/Z9/Z6/Z7/D850, Fujifilm X-T5/X-H2/GFX, Panasonic S5/S1/GH6, Leica M11/SL2/Q3, Hasselblad X2D, Phase One IQ4, OM System, Pentax, and many more. USB and WiFi connections supported.

Does TETHER STUDIO support Nikon cameras?

Yes. Full support for Nikon Z8, Z9, Z6 III, Z6 II, Z7 II, Z5, D850, D780, D500 and more via USB. WiFi support for most models. Note: Z8/Z9 WiFi is transfer-only for capture — use USB.

Does TETHER STUDIO support Fujifilm cameras?

Yes. Full support for Fujifilm X-T5, X-T4, X-H2, X-H2S, GFX 100S, GFX 100 II, GFX 50S II via USB. WiFi supported on proprietary Fuji ports. GFX medium format has the most reliable tethering.

Does TETHER STUDIO require an internet connection?

TETHER STUDIO works offline after a one-time license activation. Smart Cull runs locally using OpenCV. Your images never leave your computer. No cloud uploads, no API costs. Internet is only needed for initial activation.

Smart Cull is TETHER STUDIO's AI-powered image analysis that runs entirely on your Mac. It detects blur (soft focus, motion blur, camera shake), exposure problems (clipped highlights, crushed shadows), and near-duplicate images. Auto-labels as Keep (green), Review (yellow), or Reject (red). Apple Silicon Macs process about 0.5 seconds per image.

What is Art Director Mode?

Art Director Mode (press M) provides markup tools for on-set collaboration. Includes pen, arrow, circle, rectangle, text annotations, and numbered revision pins. Export markups as PNG (burned in), PSD (separate layers), or JSON. Essential for commercial, product, and fashion shoots where art directors need to annotate images in real-time.

Does TETHER STUDIO work on Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 through M5) and Intel Macs. Apple Silicon gives the best performance: Smart Cull processes about 0.5 seconds per image vs 1.5-2.5 seconds on Intel. Requires macOS 12 Monterey or later.

What macOS versions does TETHER STUDIO support?

macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 26 Tahoe are all supported. Three downloads: native Apple Silicon (M1 through M5), native Intel, and a Legacy build for older Macs on macOS 12 Monterey. Works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO for product photography?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO includes product photography features: composition overlays (product box, bottle, packaging guides), focus stacking for macro and product shots, shot lists for catalog workflows, IPTC metadata templates, and barcode/SKU integration for e-commerce catalogs.

Can I use studio strobes with TETHER STUDIO?

Yes. Wireless flash triggers (Profoto, Godox, Broncolor) work normally alongside tethered capture — radio signals are independent of the USB or WiFi connection. Hot shoe triggers also work with the USB cable connected.

Does TETHER STUDIO have a Client View?

Yes. Press V for Client View — a clean, full-screen display mode that hides all interface elements. Perfect for showing images to clients and art directors on set. Navigate with arrow keys, shows filename and rating on hover.

How does TETHER STUDIO compare to Capture One on price?

Capture One charges $216/year per seat with a 344% price hike in 2024. They discontinued perpetual licenses. TETHER STUDIO is $99 one-time — you own it forever. Same professional tethering capabilities, fraction of the cost, no subscription.

Does TETHER STUDIO have keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. Full keyboard-driven workflow: Space for capture, P/X for pick/reject, 1-5 for star ratings, M for markup, V for client view, F for fullscreen, N for notes, Cmd+Shift+A for Smart Cull, arrow keys to navigate. Designed for speed during live shoots.

Where does TETHER STUDIO store my images?

Images save to whatever folder you choose. App preferences are in ~/Library/Application Support/TetherStudio/. Your images are never uploaded anywhere — everything stays local on your Mac. No cloud storage, no accounts.

Does TETHER STUDIO support dual backup?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO can simultaneously write to two locations — your primary drive and a backup drive. Every capture is saved to both in real-time so you never lose a shot.

When does TETHER STUDIO launch?

TETHER STUDIO is available now. Available now at tetherstudio.app for $99 one-time.

How do I switch from Capture One to TETHER STUDIO?

TETHER STUDIO uses the same keyboard shortcuts as Capture One (P for pick, X for reject, 1-5 for ratings) and the same PTP camera protocol. Your cameras connect identically. The difference: $99 one-time instead of $216/year, plus Smart Cull AI, Art Director Mode and a built-in RAW editor.

Does TETHER STUDIO work with Lightroom and Photoshop?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO does bi-directional XMP sync with Lightroom, Capture One and darktable (change a slider in Lightroom and TETHER STUDIO redraws the preview; white balance, exposure, tone, color, clarity, texture and sharpening made in TETHER STUDIO carry back; tone curves stay in TETHER STUDIO), has a Lightroom watch folder so captures land in your Lightroom catalog while you shoot, and opens any frame in Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, Affinity, Capture One or any Mac app with one click (three shortcut slots: Cmd+E, Cmd+Shift+E, Cmd+Shift+B).

Does TETHER STUDIO have sessions?

Yes. Every shoot is a session: New, Save and Open sessions, an output folder with subfolders, custom file naming with tokens ({counter}, {seq}, {date}, {time}, {job}, {client}), a watch folder, a live capture count, shot lists, automatic dual backup and crash recovery that reopens the session where you left off. It is session-based, not a long-term catalog, so your archive stays in Lightroom or wherever it lives now.

Is TETHER STUDIO a RAW editor?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO is a tethering app and a RAW editor for Mac. Its Develop panel has white balance (temperature, tint, eyedropper, presets), exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, RGB and per-channel tone curves, parametric tone, saturation, vibrance, clarity, texture and sharpening (amount, radius, detail, masking), with DCP camera profiles and a Sync to new captures switch that applies edits to every new tethered frame. Edits are non-destructive; core adjustments are saved to XMP sidecars and tone curves stay in TETHER STUDIO. For layers and local masking, it opens the frame in Photoshop with one click.

Does TETHER STUDIO process RAW files?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO is a RAW editor with a full RAW processing pipeline. The Develop panel has white balance, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, tone curves, saturation, vibrance, clarity, texture and sharpening (amount, radius, detail, masking), with Sync to new captures so every tethered frame arrives already edited; core adjustments are saved to XMP sidecars. RAW files are decoded from the actual sensor data, then white balanced (camera multipliers, manual, or sampled from a neutral with the eyedropper), demosaiced, converted through the camera colour matrix, and rendered with a DCP camera profile in 32-bit float ProPhoto RGB. Embedded JPEG previews are used only for instant thumbnails and Smart Cull analysis, never for rendering or export. Edits are global; for layers, masking and retouching, TETHER STUDIO opens the frame in Photoshop with one click.

Can I change ISO, aperture and shutter speed from my Mac in TETHER STUDIO?

Yes. ISO, aperture and shutter speed are read from the camera and settable from the Mac over PTP, with per-brand implementations for Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm and others. There is also a white balance eyedropper: click a neutral in the frame or press W to set white balance.

Can I cancel Capture One and use TETHER STUDIO instead?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO replaces the tethered capture portion of Capture One for $99 one-time. TETHER STUDIO is also a RAW editor: white balance, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, tone curves, saturation, vibrance, clarity, texture and sharpening (amount, radius, detail, masking), with Sync to new captures so every tethered frame arrives already edited, on a DCP camera-profile pipeline in 32-bit float ProPhoto RGB, with core adjustments written to XMP. For layer retouching, open the frame in Photoshop or Affinity Photo.

Is there photography software that doesn't require a subscription?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO is $99 one-time for professional tethered capture and RAW editing. Affinity Photo is $70 one-time for retouching and layer work. Together they provide a complete professional workflow for $169 total with no subscription. Compare to Adobe Creative Cloud at $240/year or Capture One at $216/year.

Why did Capture One raise prices 344%?

In 2024, Capture One dramatically increased subscription pricing and discontinued perpetual licenses, forcing all users onto subscription plans at $216/year per seat. Many photographers saw this as a betrayal of the perpetual license model. TETHER STUDIO was built as a direct response — $99 one-time, own it forever, no subscriptions ever.

What is the best Capture One alternative in 2026?

TETHER STUDIO is the strongest Capture One alternative in 2026 for tethered shooting and RAW editing. It costs $99 one-time (vs $216/year), supports 2,900+ cameras, includes a RAW editor (DCP camera profiles, XMP sidecars), Smart Cull AI and Art Director Mode, and works offline after activation. For layer retouching, add Affinity Photo ($70 one-time) or Photoshop.

What is the best tethering software for product photography?

TETHER STUDIO is designed for product photography workflows. It includes composition overlays for product boxes and packaging, focus stacking for detail shots, shot lists for catalog tracking, IPTC metadata templates, dual backup, and Smart Cull AI. $99 one-time, supports all major camera brands.

Does TETHER STUDIO work for commercial photography?

Yes. TETHER STUDIO includes Art Director Mode for real-time markup and annotation, Client View for on-set presentations, compare views for selection, Smart Cull for quality control, and network viewing for iPad/tablet review. Built by a commercial photographer with 15+ years at studios like Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn.

How long does it take to set up camera tethering with TETHER STUDIO?

Under 2 minutes. Download, drag to Applications, launch. Plug in USB cable, set camera to correct USB mode. TETHER STUDIO auto-detects. Most of the time is the one-time camera USB mode setting.

Is TETHER STUDIO worth it for $99?

If you shoot tethered, yes. Capture One costs $216/year — TETHER STUDIO pays for itself in the first month. If you tether even a few times a year, $99 one-time is less than one session's worth of a Capture One subscription. Plus you get Smart Cull AI and Art Director Mode that Capture One doesn't have.

Should I buy TETHER STUDIO or Capture One?

For tethered capture and RAW editing: TETHER STUDIO at $99 one-time. For that plus a long-term catalogue and local masking: Capture One at $216/year, every year. Many photographers shoot and edit RAW in TETHER STUDIO and finish retouching in Affinity Photo or Photoshop, for under $170 once vs $216+ every year.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO with a Sony A7 IV?

Yes. Full support via USB and WiFi. TETHER STUDIO handles Sony's Mode 300 protocol for the A7 IV automatically. Set Save Image Size to Original and Still Img Save Dest to PC+Camera in Remote Shoot Settings.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO with a Canon R5?

Yes. Full USB and WiFi support. USB works immediately. WiFi requires one-time CCAPI activation via Canon Camera Connect app. R5 Mark II also fully supported.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO with a Nikon Z8?

Yes via USB. Set USB to MTP/PTP and enable PC Remote mode. Note: Z8 WiFi is transfer-only (Nikon limitation) — use USB for remote capture. Z8 USB tethering is very reliable.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO with a Fujifilm GFX?

Yes. GFX 100S, GFX 100 II, GFX 50S II all supported. Set USB Mode to TETHER SHOOTING AUTO. GFX has the most reliable Fujifilm tethering. Large 100MP files — use USB 3.0 cable.

Yes. Hasselblad X2D and X1D II supported via USB PTP. 100MP files transfer via USB 3.0. Set USB mode to PTP.

Can I use TETHER STUDIO with a Leica M11?

Yes. Leica M11, SL2, SL3, and Q3 supported via USB PTP. Set USB mode to PTP (not Apple MFi). WiFi also available via PTP/IP on standard port 15740.

Does TETHER STUDIO work with Profoto lighting?

Yes. Profoto Air, Air Remote, and Connect triggers work independently of USB/WiFi tethering. Radio signals don't interfere. Same for Godox, Broncolor, Elinchrom, and all wireless flash triggers.

What's the difference between TETHER STUDIO and Canon EOS Utility?

Canon EOS Utility is free but Canon-only, basic interface, no AI culling, no markup tools. TETHER STUDIO supports 2,900+ cameras from all brands, includes Smart Cull AI, Art Director Mode, Client View, compare views, and shot lists. $99 one-time.

What's the difference between tethered capture and remote capture?

They're the same thing. Tethered capture (or tethered shooting) means connecting a camera to a computer to trigger the shutter remotely and transfer images immediately. TETHER STUDIO provides this via USB or WiFi for 2,900+ cameras.

Can I tether my camera to a Mac without software?

macOS Image Capture can import images but cannot trigger capture or provide Live View. For remote shutter control, Live View, and professional workflow features, you need tethering software like TETHER STUDIO ($99 one-time).

Is TETHER STUDIO good for food photography?

Who Made This

Built by a photographer.

15 years on set. Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Framestore, Logitech. I got tired of paying $179 a year to rent creativity and built the tool that should have existed all along. This isn't a startup. It's one photographer building for other photographers.
